OUTWELL residents who campaigned to get their postwoman reinstated are celebrating after their efforts paid off.
Postie Dorothy Ball (Dolly) said she was given three days notice by Royal Mail and told she had to retire, even though she wanted to continue working.
Outraged residents launched a campaign to get Dolly her job back and are delighted she is now ba
ck in uniform and delivering their post again.
John Barney, one of the residents at the head of the campaign, said everybody is so happy she is back.
A petition asking for Dolly's return got more than 100 signatures from around 60 houses. John said people from outside Dolly's area also wanted to sign after hearing about her story.
John even went to MP Harriet Harman, as she is well-known for supporting people who want to work past retirement age. Although she couldn't help personally as she is not their local MP, John said she passed on all the documents he had sent her to their local MP and a charity that might be able to help their cause.
In the end though, the residents won their fight and Dolly was reinstated to her round after only being out of work a month.
John said Dolly is delighted to be back at work and has been told her role will be reviewed after six months.
