FORMER Wisbech Town player Keith Alexander died suddenly last Tuesday night after watching his team lose Macclesfield lose to Notts County.
Alexander, aged 53, was the first black person to manage a Football League team when he took charge of Lincoln City in 1993.
He played in the Wisbech team which reached the FA Vase semi-finals in 1986 and scored a goal in the 2-2 draw in the first
leg. Les Ferdinand scored twice for Southall to win the second leg. He played eight times for the Fenmen and scored a hat-trick on his debut against Harwich
He also had two spells as a player with King's Lynn and went on to be manager at Lincoln (twice), Grimsby, Bury, Macclesfield.
He had only recently returned to work with the Silkmen after illness. He had suffered a brain aneurysm when Lincoln manager back in 2003.
Alexander also spent almost seven months in-charge of Posh between May 2006 and January 2007.
He was very well respected in the Football League and the England team wore black armsbands in his respect at Wembley last Wednesday night and also at grounds around the country on Saturday.
It was Roy McManus who signed Alexander and he commented: "I took him on loan from Kettering just before the semi-final and he was one of the nicest guys you could meet. He was dedicated and it was a pleasure to have worked with him. He left us to play for Barnet and Barry Fry."
