I have found no dead birds after shoots
In reasoned response to Julian Kirk's progressively, approaching hysterical, letters to this newspaper on the subject of shooting for sport, I would say the following.
Firstly if he thinks deer are a recent arrival in the Fens, then as someone who has been watching them locally for the past 25 years, I must question his eyesight and his powers of observation.
With regard to gamebirds being left injured by sporting shooters, all I can say is that having spent the past five winters viz. the shooting season, working in orchards surrounded by a regular formal shoot, I have not once found a dead or injured pheasant or deer.
I am myself not a shooting man. I gain great pleasure from being able to observe pheasants, partridge and the occasional woodcock during my working day.
I dare say that if the sporting community didn't provide food and cover for these birds, a sighting would be a rarity.
