MARCH: Top marks for home

A supported living scheme in March for adults with learning disabilities has been given top marks after a visit by Government inspectors.

The home in Alder Close recently underwent a routine inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and was found to be performing well in all aspects of the inspection.

The supported living service provides care and support for 21 people with learning disabilities and residents and staff were interviewed as part of the inspection.

CQC inspectors concluded that: “All the people we spoke with told us they felt safe with the staff who were providing their care and they were able to make choices about whether they wished to participate in activities.

“We observed care being provided and talked with staff who were very knowledgeable about the people who used the service and they were able to understand their needs.”

Cambridgeshire County Council Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Councillor Martin Curtis, said: “The outcome of the CQC inspection is an excellent achievement by everyone involved with Alder Close and a reflection of the hard work, empathy and dedication that the staff team put into supporting those people who really need it.”

CQC looked at all aspects of the work at Alder Close, including measures to ensure service users were kept safe and supported in a way which reflected their individual needs an they were protected from abuse with respect to their human rights. The quality and accessibility of the accommodation, staff training, supervision and management practice and processes were also checked.
