THE GAP is the new place to be in Gorefield.

We’re not talking about the shop, but the Gorefield Adventure Patch, which was officially launched on Saturday.

The Wolf Lane playing fields now boast an impressive array of play equipment to suit all ages, plus Fenland’s only 10-piece range of adult exercise equipment.

In excess of £70,000 has been spent improving the leisure facilities in the village.

The GAP was opened by Cllr Norman Carroll JP, who has been the project leader since work began.

In his opening address, he thanked the many people who have helped bring his idea to fruition, including Hetty Thornton from Fenland Council and Phil Peacock of Cambridgeshire ACRE.

The exercise equipment was supplied and installed by Parkdale Play and Leisure, Living Willow and OGGO. Fenland Leisure Products supplied and installed most of the play equipment and mats.

The first stage of the play area was completed last year, following a £40,000 grant from the Pathfinder Scheme.

Toddler play equipment, a junior swing and the adult exercise equipment were added this year.

The scheme has been made possible through grants from WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental), Donarbon and the National Lottery. The Gorefield Playing Field Committee and Gorefield Parish Council also contributed.

Cllr Carroll said he hoped local residents would have many happy hours on the equipment and urged them to report anyone seen abusing it to the police or parish clerk, whose phone number is on the sign by the gate.
