Urgent appeal to re-home cats
Chatteris branch of Cats Protection is desperate to find homes for cats and kittens before Christmas.
The branch is holding a fundraising Christmas Fair on Saturday December 1 at the Free Church Hall in St Ives from 10am to 3pm when it hopes people from Fenland will show their support.
The branch covers the March and Chatteris areas and has several dedicated fosterers in Fenland who work tirelessly all year round to rescue, support and re-home hundreds of cats and kittens.
Volunteers help homeless, stray and feral cats and also cats whose owners can no longer look after them for various reasons.
Deborah Stamp, branch secretary, explained they are keen to re-home brother and sister Mungo and Mini, who are black cats who need to go as a pair. They used to have a loving owner but have come to Cats Protection because the owner moved and couldn’t take the pets with her.
Deborah said the branch is feeling the recession bite more than ever with resources stretched almost to breaking point. Income has been less than outgoings and the Xmas Fair is one of the main fundraisers the branch relies on for money.
The fair includes craft items, bric-a-brac, jewellery, books and tombola. raffle with prizes including a Thames jazz cruise for two with a meal, festive hamper and rally driving experience.
“Our main intention in approaching the Citizen is to get the cats that we are fostering at the moment into loving homes in time for Christmas. We also need to ensure that we have sufficient funds to cover food costs, vet bills and heating in our cat pens through the winter months until the spring when our fundraising calendar starts again. This is all done through our Christmas Fair,” said Deborah.
