Winter wonderland
Frost pictures by Terence Burke
Wisbech resident Terence Burke took these beautiful photographs at Outwell on Thursday.
Terence (71) said he had waited for years for just the right conditions to photograph the willow trees covered in a build up of hoar frost.
“I was most pleased with the result,” he said, “especially with it being my first photo session for nine months following a serious cancer operation. I’m glad to say I have been given the all clear, so it bodes well for the future.”
Hoar frost may sometimes be so thick that it looks like snow. The interlocking ice crystals become attached to branches, leaves and grass and are one of the most prominent features of a typical ‘winter wonderland’ day. The fine ‘feathers’, ‘needles’ and ‘spines’ might also be found on any other object that is exposed to supersaturated air below freezing temperature.
