An exciting New Year of activities for Fenland

A happy New Year to you all from Fenland Arts, writes arts officer Katherine Nightingale.
We are expanding our Youth Programme and are now able to offer the Arts Awards to all young people involved in our projects.

We have a number of community projects to launch throughout the year including a rural cinema project, older peoples project and community theatre project.

Our spotlight for January is our very own Youth Theatre.

Our junior group perform Mary Poppins on January 23 at March Town Hall, at 2pm and 6.30pm.

Tickets are £3.50 (£1.50) from Greetings Card Shop, High Street, March.

January 2 - February 5: 'India' exhibition at the Angles Theatre, Wisbech, in conjunction with the Cultural Film Festival at the Angles.

January 6 and 7: Skylark Studios at Tydd Gote new term begins. Call 01945-420403.

January 10: At March Town Hall at 2.30pm the Dunham family presents 'Life on the Farm' film footage showing farming life more than half a century ago. Supporting Help The Heroes - the charity helping service folk injured by war. This is a private film showing members of the Dunham Family of Binnimoor Farm at March at work on the land, taken in the middle of the last century. Arthur Dunham narrates the film together with his son Matthew. Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for children.

January 10: Elme Hall Hotel, Wisbech, Sunday Rock and Blues Club present 'Hair of the Dog'

January 15, 16 and 17: Whittlesey Straw Bear Festival.

January 15 and 16: Skylark Studios, linoprinting workshop.

January 17: Elme Hall Sunday Rock and Blues Club present 'Soft Tone Needles'

January 22: Skylark Studios, enjoy drawing workshop.

January 24: Elme Hall Sunday Rock and Blues Club present 'Breeze'

January 31: Elme Hall Sunday Rock and Blues Club present 'Egypt'

What's going on for young people with Fenland Arts?

Camera Club ages 7 – 19 years - Improve your photography skills and have
your photographs displayed in local exhibitions. The camera club will meet monthly starting on January 20 at March Town Hall, 6.30pm - 8pm (£2).

Youth Theatre: Runs sessions on a Tuesday evening - Age 6-8 from 5.30pm
-6.15pm £2 charge; Age 9-11 from 6.15pm -7pm £2 charge; Age 12-19 from 7.15pm -8.30pm (£3).

The summer performance will be Peter Pan at Dunhams Wood in July. Auditions are on February 23.

New Membership Launch: If you would like to be kept up to date with what's going on with Fenland Arts and become a 'Friend of Fenland Arts' subscribe to our monthly E-Newsletter by emailing info@whatson.org.uk

Membership is £12 per year for a group and £6 for an individual.

Sessional Workers and Volunteers: Fenland Arts are looking for people who would like to be involved in the Arts. This could be paid work or as a volunteer, musicians (any instrument if you would like to teach others), songwriters, theatre, photography, art, craft, mixed media, dressmakers, street entertainers, make-up artists, set designers, film makers, lighting and sound engineers, youth workers and stewards.

Calling all organisations involved with providing holiday activities for
children and young people in Fenland over February half-term and Easter.

Let us know. Fenland Arts are pulling together a full list of all activities for a booklet Entries must be in by February 26.
