THE forthcoming bank holiday weekend sees the annual Wisbech Photographic Festival.
The three day event is packed with free activities, including beginners’ workshops offering practical advice on ways to improve your photography and creating a portfolio.

There will also be lots of exhibitions showcasing a diverse range of work from local photographers both contemporary and historic.

The launch event on Friday May 22 is a presentation on the life and work of famous surrealist photographer Lee Miller by her son Antony Penrose.

Lee Miller famously worked with Man Ray and Picasso to name but a few and was an incredibly talented photo-journalist and surrealist. If you wish to attend this event contact info@atelier-east.co.uk

The official opening of a stunning collection of Fenland images by local photographers Simon Edwards, Bob Ledger, Bob Davis, Rob Ream and Karen Harvey will take place on Sunday May 24. Everyone is welcome at the Angles Theatre for the official opening reception from 6pm-8pm. The exhibition is on from May 22 to June 29.

Among the many exhibitions taking place is the Snapshot 2009 – Your Town community exhibition, which will be on display in the window of the Kodak One Stop Shop in the Horsefair Shopping Centre. This is a display of work from amateur photographers which is on the theme of what life is like in Wisbech and the surrounding areas. It will run from May 23 to June 6.

Local photographers Simon Edwards and Karen Harvey will be holding a free portfolio review clinic to help you present your portfolio of pictures in the best possible light on Saturday at the Café , Octavia Hill’s Birthplace House. Booking is essential.

Professional photographer Emma Chadwick will be taking portraits at the Octavia Hill’s Birthplace House. Dress up in Victorian clothes and sit at Octavia Hill’s desk for this Victorian photographic experience. Saturday May 23, 1pm-4.30pm. Admission: Adults £2.50, children free.
