Brace yourselves for Manea Gala on Saturday, July 11 – this year's event is about to take-off in a spectacular way.
Organisers have pulled off a remarkable coup by swooping for a Dakota (Douglas C47) belonging to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight to star at their event and the impressive aircraft will conduct a dazzling daylight mission.
The 67-year-old plan
e, built during the Second World War and now piloted by Flight Lieutenant Loz Rushmere, is due to roar into the area at 3.55pm and conduct a flypast which is guaranteed to thrill spectators.
An action-packed programme at the Park Road playing fields means there will be something for every member of the family to enjoy.
Maintaining the aerial theme and following on from last year's big hit, the Wheel of Death, a daring yet skilful circus-style unicycle tightwire act is bound to confound spectators and giant stilt-walkers, colourfully dressed as glorious butterflies, will really give this event wings as they mingle with the crowd.
More familiar and still very popular attractions include a classic car and motorcycle exhibition, while the fantastic dog agility display will be back due to popular demand.
Soham Majorettes and the rousing Corps of Drums are bound to be smash hits along with the knockout Punch and Judy Show. Throw in a children's fairground, a tug-of-war, craft fayre tents and a variety of stalls and you have the perfect line-up for a fantastic day out.
A parade, setting off from the village school at 12.30pm, signals the start of the action and features colourful floats and classic vehicles, while the gala itself begins at 2pm on the Playing Field.
The finale will be a disco and barbecue at the Village Hall from 7pm and a family ticket costs just £5. It's a day out you simply can't afford to miss.
