'For every megawatt produced there is an equivalent saving of fossil fuel'

TREVOR Watson has challenged my statement concerning the suitability of the Fenland landscape for energy production from wind turbines and has consistently berated wind turbines as being inefficient.
He will therefore be interested to note that in March alone (which was not our best month) just three turbines produced over 2,000 megawatt hours of electricity, which is what 450 average houses will use in a whole year.
He believes that because there is sometimes little wind that turbines are inefficient.
But he should remember that for every megawatt hour produced from the wind there is an equivalent saving of fossil fuel for our grandchildren to enjoy, and a reduction of carbon release into the atmosphere, which will help to control global warming.
How efficient will gas-powered electricity generators be when the gas runs out?
Maybe Mr Watson, when travelling outside of Fenland, should consider how little other district councils are doing to preserve our dwindling stocks of fossil fuels so that our grandchildren can enjoy the same standard of living that we have, and be proud to look over the landscape and see that Fenland is setting such a good example.
