GEOFFREY Harper's letter "Time they matched our standards" (Citizen May 20) illustrates perfectly how endemic the complacency is towards expenses.
To suggest that MP Malcolm Moss is somehow above this issue is totally misconstrued.
For the period 2007-08, Malcolm Moss cost his electorate at least £212,000 (£64,000 in salary plus £148,000 in expenses approximately).
On the Register of Members' Interests he states that he employs his wife as an executive secretary (on a reported salary of £40,000 per annum).
He claimed at least £1,900 a month on a second home allowance which suggests a lot of mortgage interest on an obviously not-so-modest property.
No-one forced him to claim this money.
I know that Malcolm Moss supports a lot of local causes and works hard for the people of North East Cambs but to reward oneself a staggering £4,070 per week (£1,230 in salary plus £2,840 in expenses approximately) cannot be justified.
As for you, Geoffrey Harper, we need to see you respond positively to Mark Archer's request and finally publish the details of councillors' bonuses and perks.
Not doing so simply adds to the growing suspicion that our local councillors might have something to be ashamed of too.
