AS a socialist, I would like to comment on the article 'Fenland counts on Conservatives' in the Citizen about the Cambs County Council election results.
It is clear from the article that many Labour voters stayed at home.

In the ward where I live, Wisbech South, there were five candidates: Conservative, Liberal Democrat, Labour, UK Independence Party and the Libertarian Party.

I only received e
lection leaflets from the Conservative and Libertarian candidates. This suggests the other three were ‘paper’ candidates.

The anti-politics reaction to the MPs’ expenses scandal may lead to the reduction of the Labour Party to a rump at the next general election. This has already happened in the county council elections.

This is something members of Fenland Labour Party should take very seriously.

Many members of Fenland Labour Party often ask me how Labour can bring an end to the Tory domination of politics in Fenland.

Well, the answer is that Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate should clearly state that, if elected, he will live on the average wage of a Fenland skilled worker – £500 a week.

Only by campaigning ‘For a Workers’ MP on a Worker’s Wage’ can Labour end the Tory domination of Fenland politics.
