I would like to reply to the letter regarding the horse fair published in the Citizen of May 6.
As a resident of Outwell Road (I am sure Mr John Hogan is not) the quote of 'They had a rented field, no mess, no problem to anyone' is a complete load of ballyhoo.
Several residents have spent the week cleaning human excrement and faeces covered
toilet paper from their own back gardens.
That's without the invasion this particular road had on the Saturday evening with cars speeding up and down and making people feel threatened in their own home.
Without the police presence there I shudder to think how this event would have gone.
Not all of the travellers, but certainly a fair few of them, had no respect for the fact they were walking in/through people's private gardens and going to the toilet – even though there were portable toilets provided.
The person who wrote the second letter speaks of racism –there was no racism intended, but some travellers have a renowned lack of respect for other people's property.
What about our human rights as home owners?
Just because there is not a word for it such as racism, surely to sweep these people's feelings aside is a form of discrimination?
I am sure I am not alone when I say thank you to those that attended the fair who were respectful to the residents and their homes but, unfortunately, it only takes a small minority to create bad feelings and give others a bad name.
