Lay-out an accident waiting to happen

I READ your article 'Roundabout Confusion' with interest and agree with the comments made on the confusion caused by the new road markings.
However, I am equally concerned about the apparent ill thought out changes made to the approach to the traffic lights at the Town bridge from South Brink.

For a considerable number of years, the traffic flow has been smooth and without incident, l
eft hand lane to turn over the bridge or straight on along Nene Quay, right hand lane to cross over to the Market Place when oncoming traffic permitted.

Now confusion, traffic back-up and an accident waiting to happen has been created by the new lay-out, heightened with the lack of advanced warning signs of the changes.

Traffic wishing to turn right has to wait for a gap in the oncoming traffic, causing a back-up of vehicle there is now a greater danger of being struck by oncoming traffic.

Remembering the old adage 'If it isn't broke, don't mend it'. Why did the council have to make these dangerous changes?

As for me, it is just another reason to drive the cyclist off the increasingly dangerous roads around our town often created by those who have little knowledge of the area or the concern of the safe space the cyclists need.
