WITH reference to your article on April 16 it is encouraging to know that crime does not appear to be a serious issue when leading members of our community are present on our town centre.
In order to capitalise on the success of this operation could I suggest that this initiative be maintained on a regular basis.

Elected members for example, could patrol the streets in yellow fluorescent jackets marked "councillor", together with representatives of the judiciary in jackets marked "magistrate".

They could be led by the council chairman in an orange fluorescent coat marked "Mayor" with gavel in hand (for gavelling purposes only).

Patrolling the town on Friday and Saturday nights could be extended to other times of the week and areas outside of the town centre that are subject to vandalism where damage has to be bankrolled by taxpayers or their insurance companies.
