WE are the Town and District Councillors for the Peckover Ward in Wisbech.
We were both shocked and appalled when we learned that Post Office Counters is intending to close the Harecroft Road Post Office in our ward.

This is a real boon to the area, as it provides a whole range of services to the local community. The Post Office always seems busy and without it the community would be forced to use the Crown Post Office which is a mile away, and does not benefit from the ample parking available at this one.

There is the additional benefit here of a convenience store and the question of its survival if the Post Office was closed must be raised.

We have both spoken to the owners of the Post Office and invited them to come to the Town Hall and address councillors about the issue, which they did very eloquently on Monday evening.

We would urge everyone to support the campaign to stop another important component of the Wisbech community being lost at the whim of this Government.

David Oliver and Nick Meekins,
Wisbech Town Councillors.
