We feel intimidated

I read with absolute dismay the comments made by the Mayor on the proposals to ban alcohol in certain areas of Wisbech (Citizen, August 27).
My wife and myself are both in our sixties and often walk in the town centre.

We feel on occasions totally intimidated by the army of the great unwashed, sitting around, half-drunk, often laying on benches asleep.
This also applies to the beautiful church grounds where, recently, one person died.

Then we need to consider the mess they make and the danger of the empty bottles on the ground.

What annoys me most is how out of touch Jonathan Farmer is with the majority of people in Wisbech, who are in favour of a nice clean, safe and tidy environment in which to live.

The Mayor should be using his office to enhance the lifestyle of the citizens of Wisbech – not standing for a filthy dirty town, which Wisbech is in danger of becoming.

Michael Cleary,
Conference Way,
Wisbech.
