I AM pleased to read that BW Nobbs has told us what caused her to become a 'Doubting Thomas', (Public Platform, August 20).
She claims it was because she was one of many who campaigned over Doddington Hospital.
I was one of the founder members of the campaign for Doddington Hospital, and over the past five years I am still a campaigner; and will never be a Doubting T
homas.
During those years I can't recall BW Nobbs at any Primary Care Trust board meetings, taking advantage of the 15 minutes set aside for members of the public to put their views to the Board; or ask searching questions.
If everyone who campaigned at the outset became a Doubting Thomas we would be in limbo; it is better to take the motto of the SAS 'He who dares wins'.
I did not say "The powers- that-be gave us facilities at the hospital". What I said was "it was saved from being sold off, it is still functioning; providing many important services".
After all these years campaigning I can tell you this – the powers-that-be give you nothing; you have to fight for all you get. The only things given are from a grand body of people called The Friends Of Doddington Hospital, God bless them.
How many facilities are there, she asked? There are 41 facilities, with seven more in the pipeline.
Consultants and other professional people from both Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke Hospitals attend Doddington Hospital for specialities.
There are nurse-led clinics: 24-hour heart monitoring, field tests, flow rate and blood scanning, minor ops, pre-ops, and ring pessary replacement.
Other services provided: 6-8 week sessions of individual rehab, balance and posture groups, chair-based exercise group, nurse-led fall clinic, home-based exercise programme, home assessment for rehab goal.
There is a new digital X-ray, minor injuries unit ultra sound scanner.
We do not have doubts about the other seven facilities, if we did we would fail in our mission.
Like myself, my colleagues will continue the fight for equality of health care for the good folk of South Fenland.
We do realise how much travelling is involved; that has been the basis of our campaign.
When the consultation starts we hope you will turn out in your thousands to tell the Cambridgeshire PCT exactly what you want in the hospital; and in the Iceni Ward in particular.
