Step back in time this May Bank Holiday for a special Romans event at Peterborough’s Flag Fen Archaeology Park.
Held between Saturday 4 – Monday 6 May, the Roaming Romans event will re-create the excitement of the era in atmospheric outdoor surroundings.
Ideal for families, historical re-enactors will be putting on fascinating combat displays, giving audiences the chance to see various types of gladiators who used to fight for entertainment.
Learn more about the weapons and tactics of the mighty Roman army, try popular Roman games and watch traditional cookery demonstrations. There will even be a cavalryman on site to demonstrate the training and use of horses in battle.
Plus have you ever wondered what happened to injured soldiers after combat? A Roman doctor will be on hand to explain the often gruesome surgery required to patch up any gory wounds.
Stuart Orme, Heritage Interpretation Manager for Vivacity Heritage, says “Our Roman event will provide a brilliant opportunity for the whole family to see events 2,000 years ago brought to life before their very eyes. It’s a great way for the kids to learn more about a subject they may be studying at school, and the event will of course be great entertainment.”
Opening times are 10am-5pm throughout the weekend. Prices are £6 for adults, £4 for children, £15 for families and under 5s are FREE. Heritage Pass Holders can enter for FREE.
