Poetry challenge on the great outdoors

If you have a talent for poetry and a passion for the great outdoors, this competition will be right up your street.

The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Welney is inviting submissions for its first illustrated poetry anthology – and would like to hear from you.

Compiled by award-winning local poet Elaine Ewart and supported by Atelier East and the Fenland Poet Laureate Awards, the anthology is a celebration of the natural world and proceeds from sales will be used to fund Fenland conservation work at WWT Welney.

The finished anthology will be unveiled at this year’s Pimms and Poetry event at the Welney reserve on June 21.

The competition is open to entrants of all ages. Entry is free but poems must be on theme of Wetland Wildlife, People and Wildlife or Fenland Landscapes. Poems should be no longer than 40 lines and entrants can send up to six poems each. Include your name, address and telephone number on your entries, and if you are under 18, also include your age.

Send your completed submissions by email to: admin@atelier-east.co.uk headed ‘Poetry Anthology’. Alternatively, send your poems via post to: Poetry Anthology, WWT Welney, 100 Foot Bank, Welney, Norfolk PE14 9TN

For further terms and conditions, see Elaine Ewart’s website: http://flightfeather.wordpress.com/2013/03/07/call-for-submissions-poetry-anthology/

The deadline for entries is Saturday April 20.
