A MARCH group has celebrated its 50th birthday.
March Flower Club marked its half-centenary with a special party on Tuesday at its monthly meeting.
June Dempsey said: “It was a lovely evening. We had some bubbly and I made a cake and we made a toast to the club.”
Two original members still attend the club – Joy Dyer and Queenie Morley – and come along to watch the demonstrations.
Tuesday’s demonstrator was Mary Griffiths, from Mildenhall, who made three arrangements, including the one pictured.
March Flower Club meets on the second Tuesday of every month at Trinity Church Hall. They are desperate for new members and June confessed she did not think they would make it to their anniversary because of flagging numbers. However, thanks to a push, they now have demonstrators booked for the next 12 months.
The club is affiliated to the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies (NAFAS) and has close links with another March club, Fun With Flowers, which meets in the Conservative Club weekly.
“Lesley Beeton from Fun With Flowers didn’t hold a meeting on Tuesday so everyone could come to our celebration,” June said. “We have a few members that also go to her meetings, as they’re a bit more hands-on and actually make arrangements.”
