A total of 550 new homes have been earmarked to be built on the outskirts of Wisbech.
Walsoken, West Walton and Emneth could be in line for growth under West Norfolk Council’s future vision for development of the area.
The council is expecting 7,000 homes to be built across West Norfolk leading up to 2026 and has set out its plans within the site allocation document.
The document earmarks land to the west of Burretgate Road to take 550 new homes.
The site allocation document states: “Wisbech, with a population of some 20,000 people, is the largest settlement in Fenland district and has a significant range of services and facilities.
“It is an important destination for the surrounding rural settlements (including some of those in West Norfolk).
“However, the growth of Wisbech is constrained by the capacity of the highway network both internal (i.e. within the town) and external (i.e. the A47) and flood risk issues in some sectors. This makes the area adjacent to the town in West Norfolk a significant opportunity for sustainable growth.”
The document will be discussed at tonight’s regeneration, environment and community panel meeting.
