THE amazing achievement of ten young people who successfully completed a Teens and Toddlers programme was celebrated with an awards ceremony.
Teens and Toddlers is a well evaluated targeted intervention programme run over 18 weeks.

This is a youth development course giving the young people the opportunity to learn skills such as raising their aspirations, self awareness, interpersonal
skills, sexual health knowledge, issues of substance misuse during pregnancy and good parenting skills.

It has been run with students from Wisbech's Thomas Clarkson Community College since February 2009 and has seen 50 youngsters achieve the National Award in Interpersonal Skills.

This project has worked closely with the town's Nene Infant School and The Oasis Children's Centre where each student spent time in a nursery working closely with the toddlers who they mentored.

They also spent classroom time focusing on the above subjects and reflecting on their time with the toddlers, discussing what it would be like to be responsible for a toddler and the skills needed to be a good parent.

For many of the teens this was their first experience of being responsible for a toddler and helped them understand the huge demands.

This was also their first experience of having adults seeing and acknowledging their individual potential.

The award ceremony was held at Nene school and was an opportunity to honour the young people for their commitment and achievements.
