Church thief caught on CCTV
A THIEF who stole from a Wisbech church did so in broad daylight and in front of CCTV cameras.
Computer equipment and bottles of wine were stolen from St Peter's Church, in Church Terrace, between 9am and 5pm on Monday, July 14.
The raider caused £50 worth of damage to an internal door and stole a hard drive.
Canon Rev Wim Zwalf said: "We've had very little trouble; the church is open during the day and we've never had anything stolen before.
"We've got a CCTV picture of him, so he's not the brightest thief in the world. It's just a nuisance and the thought there are people who burgle churches."
Rev Zwalf confirmed that a computer tower was stolen during the raid, which doesn't have any particular value, but does have letters and information he uses in organising the town's Rose Fair.
It is believed the burglar entered and exited the church via the main entrance.
Police want to speak to anyone seen entering or leaving the church during these times, or acting suspiciously inside the church.
Call them on 0845-4564564 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555111.
