CHATTERIS could have its own cinema - if there is a big enough demand.
That's the exciting prospect in store at the town's King Edward Centre - but people need to show support so the trustees can prove it is wanted when the apply for grant funding.

The trustees will be applying for a grant from Cambridgeshire ACRE th
rough the Fens Adventurer programme for a new IT suite and community cinema.

In order gauge public demand special questionnaires are being distributed around the town for people to complete.

They will be at various locations in the town and they need to be completed and returned to the King Edward Centre in Railway Lane by January 16.

The funding bid will be submitted in mid January and if all goes according to plan then the cinema and IT facilities will be included in the extensive refurbishment of the centre, which is due to be completed by the end of next year.

The cinema facility will show films that have recently been on show in main-stream cinemas, and it is expected screenings will be made twice a month - depending on demand.

It is also hoped to have Saturday shows for children.

Entrance fees could be as low as £2 or £3. And there will be a canteen selling drinks and snacks to make the cinema experience more enjoyable.

The IT Learning Centre will hold tutor-led lessons in basic computing and will enable people with no computer experience to become familiar with the Internet, email and word processing.
