THE closure of New Road in Chatteris is causing concern among residents.
Kate Johnson has been in touch with highways suggesting the road is left open or lights are put in place, rather than expect traffic to join the fast-paced by-pass.

She is also concerned, with the schools re-opening this week, there will be more traffic on Wenny Road.

The closure of the road for sewer work prompted a letter to the Citizen from a resident who had problems getting his wife to the George Clare doctors' surgery.

A spokesman for Cambs County Council said it was necessary to close the road because a trench is being dug along it.

They are monitoring the work with the developers and felt the diversion along the by-pass was better than sending drivers along residential streets.

Kate said: "I am worried about accidents with people being sent along the by-pass."
