NATWEST staff in Wisbech Exchange branch made it a day to remember last Tuesday as they celebrated 175 years of banking in the area by sharing a birthday cake and refreshments with their customers.
The current staff also invited David Turner (80) a former manager at the branch to join in the fun.

NatWest’s Wisbech branch first opened in 1834 as a branch of National Provincial Bank of England.

In 1918 National Provincial Bank of England merged with Union of London and Smith’s Bank to form one of the emerging ‘Big Five’ high street banks, later known as National Provincial Bank.

In 1962 National Provincial Bank acquired District Bank and in 1970 merged with Westminster Bank to form National Westminster Bank.

NatWest is proud of its long association with Wisbech and the branch continues to trade from its premises in Exchange Lane.

Beccy Sewell, branch manager said: “Today’s celebration has been a really fun way to celebrate the fact that NatWest has been operating a banking service for the people of Wisbech for 175 years, and to show our customers that we are still going strong. We are really proud of our association with the area and these celebrations have given my staff an excellent opportunity to talk to our customers about NatWest past and present.”
