A WISBECH family is trying to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit in King's Lynn that saved their son's life a year ago.
One-year-old Theo Hall was born four weeks premature and starved of oxygen after mum Caroline Mamas-Hall suffered complications.
Caroline said: “It had been a regular pregnancy, just like my first one, up until the end.
“We were lucky we got to hospital in time. Theo’s heartbeat was very faint when we arrived.”
He spent the first five weeks of his life in the Special Care Baby Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital before being allowed home.
His family – Caroline, dad Robin and big brother James (3) – are so grateful to the hospital and staff during those stressful few weeks, they are organising a sponsored ride on July 11 around Tydd St Giles for anything with wheels, such as prams or bikes.
The money raised will go towards an appeal the hospital is running to raise £150,000 for more incubators and an additional family room.
Theo is still experiencing problems following his birth and is showing signs of cerebral palsy, although it is too early for a definitive diagnosis. He also cannot yet sit up unaided for longer than a few seconds. However, his parents are very proud of him.
Caroline said: “He’s a real trooper.”
