THE commercial director of Stagecoach bus company is reassuring bus users in the Fenland area that proposed changes will actually benefit users in the March area.
Several passengers contacted the Citizen with their concerns after being made aware that changes are due to take place.
Pensioner Connie Harris, of Manea, uses the 333 service from the village to March and the town's Tesco store and she is among t
he people left not knowing if the service would be cut or improved.
Philip Norwell, commercial director for Stagecoach in the Fens, explained full details of changes will hopefully be made public shortly but he assured there will be benefits throughout the Fens.
He said the 333 service will continue, be run two-hourly and also include Chatteris.
"There may still be some minor things to change but we are looking to provide, on an experimental basis, extra journeys through Manea to March railway station," said Mr Norwell.
The company wants to improve services for commuters with a morning and evening service to March train station.
"There are other significant benefits throughout the Fenland area and there will be more information in the next few weeks," he said.
The company bought the business from Cavalier Travel at the end of March and this purchase is currently with the Office of Fair Trading for approval along with the proposed changes.
Seventy-six-year-old Miss Harris explained the service she uses stops at Manea, Wimblington, March then the Hostmoor Tesco store and runs from Monday to Friday at 10am and 11am from Manea and 12.40pm and 1.40pm return from Tesco.
She uses the service about three times a week and relies on it to get into March to shop.
Miss Harris said she knows of other passengers who use the service to get to work and she was concerned any cuts would affect the elderly and those who cannot drive. After learning the aim is to improve the service, Miss Harris said: "I am very pleased. Such a lot of people rely on it.
People in Wimblington need it to shop as well."
A spokesman for Cambs County Council said it is aware of the review of services and re-numbering and re-registering of some services and this is being assessed.
