CAR owner Jayne Webb couldn't believe her eyes when she returned from a shopping trip to discover her treasured Ford Escort had been stolen from her driveway.
The K-reg, white-coloured, car has not been working for the past few weeks as it has a flat battery and Jayne believes that whoever took it would have had to tow it away.

"I did put a new battery in it, but I haven't been running the engine as oft
en as I should have and the battery had gone dead.

"I did try starting it with jump leads not too long ago, but I couldn't get it to go," said Jayne, who is a full-time carer for her mum, Marie Webb.

The mother and daughter live together in Elm Low Road, Wisbech, and had been to Tesco shopping on Wednesday afternoon.

"We left at around 1.05pm and got back just before 3pm and the car had gone in the two hours we were out. I couldn't believe it when I got back and the car wasn't on the drive," said Jayne.

The car, registration number K334 LNG, is worth around £500 but is worth a lot more to Jayne. "It has quite a lot of sentimental value, which is why I haven't sold it," said Jayne, who reported the theft to police.

The car was laden with goods for a car boot sale, including kitchen bric-a-brac, and some distinctive soft toys, including a big purple elephant and a fluffy brown donkey.

Local scrapyards have been alerted and Jayne has checked with neighbours to ask if they saw or heard anything.

"They either had to tow it or they had a low-loader to take it away and I'm hoping that someone might come forward, who saw it being taken," said Jayne.

Anyone with information can contact Jayne on 07760-326336, police on 0845-4564561 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555111.
