LIVE music lovers in Fenland have been dealt a boost this week with the news that March's Hippodrome is being set up to house major music events.
Organisers are already hunting for the best local talent to converge with national acts, including recent as-yet unnamed chart artists, for an event pencilled in for October.

The idea for the venture came from the members of the Grange Farm Studio
Music Forum, who meet on a monthly basis in the 200-year-old converted barn in Emneth to discuss the Fenland music scene.

They then approached Mark Petrou, owner of the Hippodrome, who has began making all the necessary legal arrangements with the local authorities.

Studio owner Lucy Ryan and Mr Petrou, a live music fan himself, have said the “exciting concept” could breath new life into the Hippodrome.

Ms Ryan said: “The opportunity to host live music at the Hippodrome really excites us and we know it will excite local youngsters and music lovers.

“The Petrou brothers have been very enthusiastic and generous as they too long for the venue to live and breath again.”

Mr Petrou said: “I still have obstacles to overcome before we can confirm it, but we have made significant steps and we are working hard to get it done.

“The music forum guys have been very supportive and helpful. It’s just the sort of thing that will put the Hippodrome back on the map and bring people into March.”
