Last week we reported how one couple had been left baffled after spotting a 'huge white light whirling in a clockwise rotation' above houses in the Fenland Road area late on December 24.

They described how the mass of light had lingered for several hours before finally disappearing.

There were various theories on just exactly what the phenomenon was, with some believing it truly was an alien visitor, other younger readers even thought it could be Father Christmas, and one man took it to be a religious sign or possibly the Aurora Borealis.

But it appears the mystery has been solved with dozens of readers pointing out the likely source as the laser light display which has been lighting up the sky above Jack's Nightclub on Nene Parade.

However, a father from Leverington, who didn't want to be named (who also thought it was the laser lights from Jack's), said his eight-year-old daughter had spotted the bright light as she was getting ready for bed on Christmas Eve and was convinced it was Father Christmas.

And Mickie Stacey of Railway Road, Wisbech, said: "Myself, daughter, her husband and my mother-in-law saw it as well – we used it as "Santa" to get our daughter to bed."

Another man from Coldham spotted the light as he cycled from his home to attend the midnight mass service at Elm.

Jimmy Watkinson said: "I am quite religious and I saw it as some kind of sign, because it was Christmas Eve. I felt drawn to it and tried to cycle towards it."

Meanwhile, a Citizen reader, who did not wish to be named, rang to say how he had seen a petal-like light formation in the sky between March and Friday Bridge around 7.30pm on January 2.

"It was definitely round and definitely moving," he said, adding: "It looked like a big flower."

Simon Holmes, of Emneth, was just one of many to point out the lights were coming from Jack's, others included S Spencer, who lives in the Victoria Road area, who said: "In regard to the "UFO" lights on Christmas Eve. I saw them from my back garden, and I thought I was seeing things, so I called my sons to have a look and they explained that the lights were probably from a laser display at the nightclub."

But while the majority knew the lights were from Jack's they were also quick to admit they did look a bit like a UFO in the night sky.

Karen Smith, of Boyces Road, said: "We are not being invaded by aliens, just decorative lights for the nightclub.
"I have seen them myself and yes they do look a bit like a UFO at night."

Darren Horspole, of Leverington Road, said: "My family and I were travelling back from a family party at Upwell on Christmas Eve only to see the same image in the sky.

"I must admit it did seem a bit weird, but as we drove over Freedom Bridge the source of the object became clear.

"It was an outside disco light positioned on the top of Jack's Nightclub shining into the sky. So no alien landings this Christmas!"

Finally Steven Sewell from Emneth, who did really recognise it was decorative lights reflecting on the underside of the low clouds, said: "Or could it actually be visitors from another planet, coming to the Fens to get a job before the Bulgarians and Romanians arrive here?"

But one March man, who did not want to be named, whose hobby is sky watching, said that whilst he had not seen the Wisbech phenomenon he had seen an unexplained flying object above his home town in October.

"I log everything down and on October 21 I saw a boomerang shaped object about 30 to 40 feet across with a very low light on either wing. It was not making any noise.

"I have been watching the skies with strong binoculars for five years and have seen meteorites and things like that and I can also make out the satellites in space.

"I know all about the various aircraft including the Stealth bombers and things like that and I know what they look like – and this was like none of those," he said.

So maybe it is still a question of 'watch this space'!
