A 'JACKASS' style stunt recorded in Wisbech and uploaded on a video-sharing website has sparked an angry response from local police.
The three-minute long video, on YouTube, shows a man jumping off Town Bridge from a height of around 8ft into the muddy River Nene.

The Citizen understands the pair shown in the video are both Polish and were working locally. However, it is understood they have returned to Poland and the incident could have been a way of celebrating their last day in the town.

It is also understood the man who filmed the footage was goading the second man into jumping and they were both drunk.

Once the man had jumped into the river, the man filming was laughing and shouting ‘Polska Jackass’ – Polish Jackass – a reference to the hit American show featuring dangerous and outrageous stunts. So far, one version of the video has had over 300 views since it was uploaded. A second version of the video of the same event, but under a different title, has received almost 40 views.

Wisbech police Sergeant David Bax said that this type of stunt could kill and that it is very hard for the force to police this sort of activity.

“That sort of activity is not acceptable,” he said, adding: “From a health and safety point of view, we work closely with the Port Authority and they say people going in the river are very unlikely to get out because of the obstructions.

“When in the water, people can only last a couple of minutes. It would trigger a police and fire service response to locate someone who has allegedly jumped in the river.

“It’s very hard for us (the police) to get out quickly to help get someone out.”
