RESIDENTS in the Walsoken and West Walton areas plagued by a sewage smell have been told it should be gone by the weekend.
The Citizen has received several complaints from people regarding the smell, which is so strong they have not been able to go in their gardens or have windows open. West Norfolk Borough Council also said they have received many complaints.
Clare Hanna, Environmental Health Officer from the council, said the smell is coming from Strattons Liquid Waste Disposal on Sibleyfields Biggs Road in Walsoken.
The company, who empty septic tanks, store the waste in three large lagoons. Periodically the lagoons need to be "de-sludged" and it is regularly done at this time of year.
The liquid is drained from the lagoons and when the bacteria is exposed to the air, it creates the smell.
Miss Hanna added: "We are investigating whether the company is using the most practical means and liasing with them to find a way forward and identify potential solutions to the problem.
"We have stipulated that the company do not empty the third lagoon until cooler weather and hopefully work on the other lagoons will be completed by Friday."
