THE man believed to be Fenland's oldest surviving veteran has been honoured with a visit from two of the county's leading dignitaries to a care centre he attends.
Freddie Grounds, Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, and Lady de Ramsey, the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire, presented 98-year-old Jim Enright with a Veteran’s Badge at the Rosebank Centre in Wisbech, on Monday.

The visit followed a formal Armed Forces Day ceremony at Fenland Hall in March, organised by Fenland District Council to honour Britain’s service personnel.

After meeting Mr Enright and his wife Lily, Mr Grounds and Lady de Ramsey stayed to chat with staff and other older people.

Mr Enright served in the Army with the Royal Signals and was captured by the Japanese after the fall of Singapore in 1942. He was a prisoner-of-war for four years.
