WORK is about to begin to make changes to St Peter's Church at Wimblington permanent.
Pews have already been removed from the back of the church to create a meeting place.

This has proved a successful move and now it has been decided to make the change permanent.

The planned work will include the removal of pew platforms and low
ering the floor so the meeting area is all on one level.

Once the work is complete the area will be much more user friendly, especially for those with walking difficulties.
Churchwarden Peter James said: "The work is expected to take about three weeks.

"On Sunday there will be a joint Beniface service at St Mary's, Doddington, at 10.30am to celebrate pentecost.

"On May 18 and 25, at 11.15am, the church services will be held in Thomas Eaton primary school hall, next to the church, and Friday communion services will be suspended until further notice."

Mr James explained they were unable to carry out the full planned alterations to the church due to a lack of funding.
Various sources had been approached without success but the church has managed to raise enough money to carry out this first stage of the work.

This has also given the church the opportunity to re-visit the need for improved heating and to look at alternatives as it is felt electric storage heating will be too costly to run.

During this building work, scrapbooking and card making, keep fit and Tuesday coffee morning will be suspended.
