Students at the College of West Anglia enjoyed excellent A level results today (Thursday).
At the college’s King’s Lynn campus, which has many pupils from Fenland, A2 (full A level) students, enjoyed a pass rate of 98% at grades A*-E, and an excellent 66.5% at A*-C.
The AS levels saw an 81.0% pass rate at A-E with 38.4% at A-C.
There were some very inspirational stories that came out of the college, including Walton Highway pupil Ashleigh Mays (20) who overcame a lot of health problems to gain two C grades. Former Wisbech Grammar School pupil Ashleigh had to take a lot of time off from her college work but has secured a place at De Montford University in Leicester to study law and psychology.
Young mum-of-two Shannon Kiley (20) was delighted when she realised she had the grades to study childhood studies at Norwich City College University. Shannon, from Marshland St James, has two sons Riley and Bobby and gained a B in sociology, C in English lit and land and a D in psychology.
Fenland also produced some high flyers at the college. James Taylor, from Gorefield, achieved four A Levels, with an A in IT and Bs in law, business and English. He will be studying business, economics and finance at Loughborough University.
And Aysha Bellamy (18) from Wisbech gained A*s in human biology and psychology and A in English. The former Marshland High School pupil will be going to Lincoln to study psychology.
Principal David Pomfret said: “We are extremely proud of our students’ achievements. They reflect both the hard work and commitment of our students and the high quality of teaching and learning in our college. I would like to congratulate all our students and staff on their success.
“We are also delighted with the 16 subjects that achieved a 100% pass rate; this, coupled with the majority of our A level students attaining A to C grades, means that many of them will be accepted into their first choice college or university.”
