A COUPLE who moor their boat at a March marina had a very special surprise waiting for them to top off an already-special day.
Dave Gard and Tracey Stevens (pictured left) walked out of March register office on Friday after just tying the knot and were surprised with a ‘Just Married’ pedalo, decorated by their friends.
It was an added bonus to the flotilla of around a dozen decorated narrowboats – including the couple’s boat ‘Drifter’ – that had paraded the happy couple to their wedding from Floods Ferry Marina Park earlier in the day.
The surprise was organised by June Jones, who runs the marina with her husband Mike.
June said: “Dave is a really emotional guy and he couldn’t believe it.”
The surprise had been orchestrated so the couple were completed unaware of what was going on. Dave had seen the pedalo at the marina when they met up there on Friday morning but unknown to him, June had already set up all the decorations, ready to be put on.
Once the flotilla got underway, chugging along the River Nene, phase two of the plan kicked in. The pedalo was decked out and towed up-river during the wedding ceremony so it could be hidden under the Town Bridge.
Awaiting the newly-weds was a romantic champagne and strawberry picnic, which they enjoyed before heading back upstream to the marina for the reception.
Dave and Tracey had a buffet in the clubhouse before their Hawaiian-themed party in the evening.
