MEMBERS of March Veteran and Vintage Cycle Club held their New Year’s Ride on Sunday incorporating the Downhill Free-wheeling Challenge.

The seven-mile ride included pedalling along Longhill Road, Flagrass Hill, Nene Parade, through the town centre and Station Road with lunch and presentations at the Plate and Porter.

The daring downhill challenge was along the footpath off Norwood Road bridge and saw Cherry Ireland as the ladies winner taking the Tom Young Trophy and club chairman Colin Bedford was the men’s winner taking the Johnson’s Cup.

Dean Abbott and Stacey Evans were awarded the President’s Trophy for their working during the year.

A total of 35 members took part in the ride aged from ten to over 80.

The oldest cycle on the road was an 1886 Humber Track ridden by Brian Cooper and the most modern was from the 1990s ridden by Colin Bedford.
