Former Wisbech Grammar School Alice Meekins is celebrating after winning top prize in a photographic competition linked to an expedition she enjoyed to Kenya last summer.

The teenager took part in the Grammar School’s trip to the African state run by Camps International, which provides young people with a chance to undertake charity work across the globe.

After returning home in August Alice, who is the daughter of former Wisbech Mayor Nick Meekins, entered a photographic competition run by Camps International and open to all those who took part in expeditions in summer 2012.

Alice submitted entries in three of the five categories: wildlife, environment, and community, and of the hundreds of entries, was privileged enough to have one photo short-listed for the community category (of 16), and five for the wildlife category (of 27).

There was a winner chosen for each category, who have won digital photo frames but Alice was lucky enough to be the overall competition winner winning a Panasonic Lumix TZ20 for her entry of a picture of a group of lions lounging on a rock in Tsavo East.

While Alice was in Kenya she undertook work on a project at a primary school.
