Sisters Jodie and Chloe Tawn have handed over a whopping £6,300 cheque in memory of their mum Janet Tawn who died of breast cancer in 2006.

The girls aged 11 and nine raised the money at a fundraising auction held at Leverington Sports and Social Club last month after making an appeal for items to sell in the Fenland Citizen.

Dad Rob explained the girls were delighted with the response and he paid tribute to the generosity of people who went along to the auction.

“Things were selling for a lot more than they should have done really, people were so generous,” said Rob.

The girls handed the cheque over on Sunday to Ria Parker Junior Sister on Shouldham Ward, where Janet received treatment during her three-year battle with cancer.

Before her death Janet, who was 29 when she died, raised will over £10,000 for the Macmillan Centre at King’s Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital and her daughters are determined to follow in their mum’s footsteps.

They have already run the Race for Life several times, the first was just a year after Janet’s death.
