An inspiration

March sisters Gladys and Freda Harwin have been honoured with a prestigious Girlguiding Cambridgeshire East Lily Award for their dedication to Girlguiding since they joined the Brownies aged seven.

The were presented with a specially-designed brooch in honour of their life-time service by Jean Verney, County Commissioner for Girlguiding Cambridgeshire East at a tea party in their honour.

For over 40 years, Gladys was leader of 1st March Guides, a Camp Adviser and ran the Fenland Guides trading depot for many years and is still an active member of the Trefoil Guild and a County Vice-President.

Freda was Brown Owl with 1st March Brownies for over 40 years, ran the catering at numerous Guide camps and was a Brownie holiday adviser before joining the Trefoil Guild. She is currently Girlguiding March District President and a County Vice-President

Gladys said: “I’ve enjoyed every minute. I’m extremely proud to have received this award” and Freda added: “I have received so much out of Guiding through the years.”

Jean Verney said they have been inspirational to generations of local girls and young women.
