The couple, who live in Kestrel Drive, Wisbech, met when they were both 15 and married on July 27, 1946 in Harringay, North London. They moved to Wisbech in 1989.
Walter and Gladys, who are now 85, are keen volunteers.
Gladys recently retired from the British Heart Foundation, where she had volunteered for the past 14 years and Walter is a familiar face at North Cambs Hospital where he volunteers twice a week, making beds and generally being a helpful pair of hands..
They are members of Friday Bridge Senior Citizens Club and regularly attend the meetings.
The couple have one daughter, Susan (63) and two grandchildren, Becky (35) and Nicholas (37). They were planning a quiet celebration of their anniversary.
