Anniversary celebrations

WISBECH St Mary Play Group is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a special afternoon at the Churchfield Way premises on May 29.

Fenland MP Steve Barclay will open the afternoon which is from noon to 3pm.

People associated with the play group past and present are invited to come along and join the celebrations, which are being combined with the jubilee.

There will be a buffet and nibbles.

Current play group leader Mary McClagish has been with the group for the 30 years as a parent and committee member and then as leader from 1986.

The playgroup opened its door in January 1982. Prior to this children used a play bus parked at school for two sessions per week.

A group of local mums got together to fundraise and get grants to open a playgroup in the village. They were offered the use of the sports pavilion on the village playing field where the group stayed until May 2002, then they moved into a building on the school site which is their current base.
