Back on track at March station

TRACK panels, that have been stored in the Network Rail compound since March 2011, have been lifted into position onto the track bed on the disused section of March Railway station.

The Friends of March Railway Station approached Electro Motive, based in March up Sidings, to ask if they could “borrow” the hire crane they used to remove trains off the track for maintenance.

Friends chairman Adrian Sutterby said: “Unbelievably, they said yes.”

There was a flurry of preparations as plans had to be drawn up, risk assessments and method statements written before the panels could be moved into position.

“This went very well. A brilliant afternoon’s work,” said Adrian.

The group wants to thank Crowland Cranes and the two operators Dave and Graham and Electro Motive for their help and support.

The volunteers from the Friends will be kept busy for the rest of the year making the track bed area look better.

The group meet on the second Saturday of the month from 10am to 1pm and new volunteers are welcome.
