Wisbech Rotary Club is appealing to Wisbech and district residents and businesses to collect bar codes from packets of Yorkshire tea and teabags to help them provide vital mobility equipment to disabled children and adults around the world.
It is estimated that over 100 million people worldwide with physical disabilities need wheelchairs, but less than one per cent own or have access to one. In many developing countries, the only way for a person with physical disabilities to be mobile is to crawl along the ground or be carried by family and friends.
Rotary International in Britain and Ireland (RIBI), in conjunction with Yorkshire Tea, is helping the Wheelchair Foundation UK in their aim to provide a wheelchair to every child, teen or adult who needs one, but cannot afford one. Since October 2003, Rotary Clubs throughout Great Britain and Ireland have sponsored thousands of wheelchairs in more than 20 countries around the world, as well as participating directly in their delivery.
By collecting bar codes from packets of Yorkshire tea and teabags, as well as any other Yorkshire Tea products,
You can help Wisbech Rotary Club add to this total. For example the bar code from a box of 80 teabags is worth 10p, with the largest catering bag of 1,200 teabags being worth £1.50. Each donation of £75 enables a wheelchair to be delivered to a person in need somewhere around the world. Can you please try to help
someone by supporting this really worthwhile scheme?
Please send your barcodes to ‘Wisbech Rotary Club Barcode Appeal, c/o Rotarian Valerie Smith, Buxton House,
Jew House Drove, Friday Bridge, Wisbech, PE140NU or hand them in at the Tourist Information Centre, Post Office Lane, Wisbech.
