A high-tech bid to kick-start closer links between Wisbech and its French twin town of Arles has been launched.
The creation of a new website, ‘The twinning wiki’, was announced at a public meeting arranged by the twinning club, Wisbech Grammar School and Thomas Clarkson Community College on Thursday.
The Grammar School’s head of French, Noemie Neighbour, introduced the site that she had created, which allows users to upload material and enables schools in Wisbech and Arles to share information.
Both Mrs Neighbour and Helen Thompson, head of modern languages at Thomas Clarkson, said they had been writing letters to schools in the twin town, with a view to arranging visits by pupils from both schools.
Roger Powell, chairman of the Wisbech-Arles twinning club, said that he was hoping to fire up interest in the group again and that his aim was to put the club back on the cultural map.
Artist Chris Francis and sculptor Tom Penney, who attended the meeting, were planning to set sail for Arles in their 33 foot long steel junk rig before Christmas with a stainless steel apple tree that Mr Penney had created and they offered to write a regular log of their journey for people looking at the new website, which can be found by clicking on www.arles-wisbech.wikispaces.com
