AS Wisbech Town Council consults on whether to move forward with plans to acquire the lease on the rail link between March and Wisbech, a March town councillor has called the scheme a “black hole”.
The railway line, known as the Bramley Line, links the two Fenland towns but Cllr Kit Owen, who is also a Fenland District Council councillor, said the town council have not discussed taking it on.
He described it as a “black hole to pour money into” and said a lot more market research would have to be carried out before the town council could consider getting involved.
Cllr Owen said they would want facts and figures to show that people would really use the railway and it would be of benefit.
Wisbech Town Council have already allocated money in next year’s budget that could be used to start the ball rolling on acquiring the lease.
The council are currently asking the Wisbech public whether they want this money to be spent on the rail link or for something else.
