Open Chest has presented £1,000 to the March and District branch of the Parkinson’s Disease Society.

The money was handed over at last week’s AGM, held at the Braza Club, by Kathy Dudley from Open Chest.

Bill O’Connor, vice-chairman of the branch, said they are very grateful for the charity’s continued support. The majority of the money goes towards trips for members and speakers and entertainment at meetings.

The branch is celebrating its tenth year and in that time has grown from strength to strength.

It originally started as support group with four members that met in March Library for the first time of November 5, 2003. Over the next three years, its membership grew and the support group became a branch.

In March 2007, chairman George Shippey became president and Bill O’Connor took over as chairman. And the branch, which had outgrown the library, moved to its new permanent home at the Braza Club in Station Road.
